Entomos: Our Story
Entomos: an insect story since 2009
Entomos AG was founded in December 2009 as a spin-off of the Andermatt Group. The group exists since 1988 and offers products for the biological protection of crops around the world. In addition to numerous awards, the Andermatt Group received in 2007 the Corporate Award from the Swiss Environmental Foundation.
Entomos: first company in Switzerland allowed to breed and sell edible insects
Entomos AG can rely on more than 25 years of know-how and has operated its own edible insects since the end of 2016. Since obtaining its official authorization issued by the federal authorities on July 7th 2017, Entomos AG is the first authorized company in Switzerland to breed and sell edible insects.
On January 1, 2019, the company was taken over by entomopreneur Jean-Yves Cuendet so that Entomos SA would not disappear. At the same time, a new collaboration of reason began with the start-up Insekterei GmbH in which the two breeding operations were brought together on a single site.
At the end of 2019, a further major change takes place with the takeover of the building, including the breeding premises, by entrepreneur and musician Dieter Meier of the well-known Swiss music band Yello. The takeover means the closure of the joint breeding operation with Insekterei and the birth of a new cooperation with the Endingen-based company Ensectable AG.
Working together for a better world
At the beginning of 2022, Entomos can once again offer organic Swiss crickets, thanks to Lilia and Raphaël Häner (meinobstgarten.ch), who raise local crickets in Laufen using technology from Swiss start-up smartbreed. It couldn't be more ecological, as Lilia and Raphaël use only the sun's heat and feed the locusts only with local plants.
As Ensectable's volumes are not sufficient to cover our insect needs, new collaborations with European producers are necessary. For this reason, Entomos can unfortunately no longer offer only Swiss organic insects in 2023.
